Jimmy Herring and Circles Around The Sun recorded Neal Casal’s “Bird With No Name” (Sweeten The Distance, 2011) for the tribute album, Highway Butterfly: The Songs of Neal Casal. Neal’s version of course featured his incredible vocal and lyrics, but Jimmy has recreated it on his guitar in mind-blowing instrumental fashion.

BAND: Jimmy Herring - Electric Guitars · Dan Horne - Bass Guitar · Mark Levy - Drums · Adam MacDougall - Organ, Clavinet · Jon Graboff - Guitar · John Keane - Pedal Steel Guitar, Acoustic Guitar · Tony Leone - Drums · Jim Scott - Tambourine

“I first met Neal when we were doing gigs with Phil Lesh at Terrapin Crossroads, and he was so awesome and easy to work with and super humble guy and just brilliantly played those tunes. Great singer, great playing, the interaction was fun, just a super wonderful cat to play with.

Lyrics | Bird With No Name

Empty pages there before you
Days go down into our history
All the ways you could have taken
There was only one that meant to me

Long before you ever could have known
Things would come to be this way
Now you find yourself lying alone
Like a bird with no name

The time that lies around you
As the dawn surrenders to another day
The world goes on without you
There's a gift to bring just a word without a page
There's no one left to let you down
You're holding on but nothing here remains
Of the all the things you could have found
You ended up a bird with no name

You made this promise to yourself
Was for you and no one else
There was no one who you could tell
Your story to another tired of singing
Long before you ever could have known
Things would come to be this way
Now you find yourself lying alone

Like a bird with no name
